The idea that Jesus revealed himself in Old Testament theophanies prior to his birth is based on the false belief that he preexisted as &#39;God the Son&#39; and so are incorrect. The purpose of this book is to compare the accuracy of popular Bible translations based on linguistic grounds. He also debated trinitarians on-line, one of whom is a certain Robert Hommel. BeDuhn did a great job. Regarding Arianism, I doubt whether his work will support it conclusively. I think his research is unbiased. He writes, "After this we are immersed three times, making a somewhat larger pledge than the Lord appointed in the Gospel" (De Corona 3).<br /><br />I don't know what Tertullian could be referring to except Matthew 28:19.<br /><br />So even if Matt. 28:19 was originally "in my name," we're left with the same dilemma we always had. We already knew Acts repeatedly references baptism in Jesus' name.
